Types of cancer screening
Visual exam
In
the oral cancer screening - face, neck, lips, inside of the nose and
oral cavity are the main parts that should be examined to know any
problem. While screening dentists look for any type of
abnormalities—asymmetries, swellings, bumps, ulcerations, color patches
and many others. Dentists may use a light and mirror to look inside your
nose and mouth; they can also use different tools to check the tonsils,
throat, gums, inner cheeks, roof of the mouth and your tongue.
Physical exam
This
exam happens after the visual one. In this dentists look for unusual
nodules or masses by checking your head, cheeks, oral cavity, under the
chin and around the jaw area. Oral cancer symptoms may cause severe
pain, but sometimes a painless swelling can also lead you towards it.
Always go to a trained dentist for oral cancer screening.
Dentists use visual inspection, special scopes and some lighting
equipment to perform screenings for oral cancer. If you find any
symptom, don’t take any risk and go to your dentist for the screening.
To avoid this problem or any other oral problem you should avoid
smoking, chewing tobacco and regular consumption of alcohol or any type
of heavy dosage of drugs.
